Stop Anti-Semitism on College Campuses Act This bill prohibits an institution of higher education (IHE) that participates in federal student aid programs from authorizing, facilitating, providing funding for, or otherwise supporting any event that promotes anti-Semitism on the IHE's campus.
Colleges that accept federal student aid money are prohibited from funding, authorizing, or supporting any campus event that promotes antisemitism. Violations could put the school's federal aid eligibility at risk.
This gives the federal government power to defund colleges based on determinations of what constitutes antisemitism on campus. The bill's practical effect depends entirely on how 'promotes anti-Semitism' is defined — if applied through the IHRA definition (which treats certain forms of Israel criticism as antisemitic), it could restrict campus speech about Israeli policy and Palestinian rights.
