Summary

Retiring the Egregious Confusion Over the Genuine Name of Israel’s Zone of Influence by Necessitating Government-use of Judea and Samaria Act or the RECOGNIZING Judea and Samaria Act This bill prohibits the use of federal funds to prepare or promulgate certain materials (including any policy, guidance, regulation, executive order, or other work products) that refers to Judea and Samaria as the West Bank. The prohibition does not apply to U.S. obligations under international treaties or other agreements. The bill also amends certain laws to replace the term the West Bank with Judea and Samaria .

Editorial Explainer

This bill bars federal agencies from using taxpayer money to create materials (policies, guidance, regulations) that call the West Bank by that name. Instead, all federal documents must use the term 'Judea and Samaria.' The restriction does not apply to materials required by international treaties or agreements.

Why it matters

This bill advances Israeli territorial naming and framing in official US government language, replacing the internationally recognized term 'West Bank' with terminology associated with Israeli claims to the territory. The change affects how federal agencies describe the disputed Palestinian territories in all public communications and policy documents.
